Afula is a city located in the north of the country, in the Jezreel Valley.
The excavations indicate that people lived on this site even 5000 years ago.
In 1799, near Afula, the battle of Napoleon's troops with the Turks took place.
Modern Afula was founded in 1925.
The city is named after the settlement of Ophel, mentioned in Tanakh, which existed at this place during the conquest of Canaan.
Afula received the city status in 1972. Today it is the administrative center of the Jezreel Valley.
There are two industrial zones and the hospital "a-Emek" in the city.
